Gateway
A communications link between two different kinds of network. Often built in software converts information from one format
to another so that it can be passed on to an adjoining network. Many local area networks which are not connected directly to
the Internet use a gateway to enable e-mail exchange with Internet users, and users of another LAN.
Gigabyte (GB)
A measure of RAM, ROM and hard disk space, equal to1 073 741 824 bytes (which is quite a lot... really)

An easy-to-use Internet Service that organises information on the Internet into a series of structured hierarchical menus.
Gopher Jewels
A subject-based catalogue of Internet resources organised into Gopher Menus.
graphical user interface (GUI)
A computer user interface where programs and datafiles are represented by little pictures or icons, and programs are launched
by clicking or double-clicking icons. Used extensively by Macintosh, and Microsoft Windows. See also command line and
DOS.
greyscale
A video card and software capability allowing a monitor to display graphics in shades of grey, or a printer capable of
producing output in shades of grey.
