The Wedding Singer

This is a movie which has all the ingredients and protential of being a good film. For instance it has some good retro-music of the 80's but they could have chosen some better tracks, lets face it they had lots to choose from. It had the comedy side to it - like guess the pop star who is being sent up. It fell down at the pace of the film and to some extent with the lack of a story line. Except for the obvious one, this being that the wedding singer Robbie Hart (Adam Sadler) who, it has to be said, has a really good voice, is engaged to be married to Linda. She jilts him at the alter. He then looses it and becomes a failure as a wedding singer. At his first appointment he becomes depressed, cynical and rude to the guests, and is punched out!

Enter Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) who is the waitress at all the functions Robbie has been singing at. Julia is herself engaged to a sex maniac and yes- you guessed it- they fall in love. Robbie's ex gets in the way and so does her fiancé. Let the chase begin all be it a slow one. It does, however, become interesting on the aeroplane to Las Vegas when the first class cabin crew become involved. Enter Billy Idol (not the real one), and yes they all live happily ever after.

Despite all its sort comings we enjoyed it if only for the revival of the 80's music but that's because it's my era.

We gave it 8/10
