Film review by Juleigh Martin and Loz
George Clooney - Foley
In the beginning I have to say I had a few reservations on how well George would fit in outside of his ER role, and at first I seemed to have been proved right. Foley a smooth but bungling thief tries to rob a bank in a very unique and comic way. Unfortunately for him he gets caught when his get-away car (which is an old heap) breaks down and the cop just casually walks over and arrests him. Foley ends up in jail with an old friend and they plan to escape.
An almost obligatory love story develops between Foley and an attorney. This starts out when he escapes from jail with a couple of half-wits, and thanks to one of them Foley ends up in the trunk of the attorney's car and she is his prisoner for a while.
The gang has decided to pull off a big diamond theft from a former inmate's home. In a very unlikely coincidence, a rival gang from the same jail has also decided to pull the same crime on the same day and at the same time Problems start for Foley when one of his no hope jailbird buddies decides he can do better without Foley and joins the other gang. He does this partly to spite Foley but mainly because he thinks he's one of the big boys now and will be running the show. This, to his horror, turns into his worst nightmare as the rival gang embark on a major killing spree before hitting the ex-con's house for the diamonds (which the ex-con was stupid enough to tell all his fellow inmates were hidden in his house).
Meanwhile, Foley is being hunted down by the rival gang's leader who has discovered where his girlfriend lives. The attorney is on Foley's side. She has uncovered the plan to dispense with Foley and is at the apartment when the hit guy arrives.
The film was shot in a way that you feel you are being told a story and not actually by Foley but by a prison guard. And with some unique filming that makes you believe that in parts you could be dreaming, especially some of the love scenes between Foley and the attorney.
All in all we think it's well worth taking a peek at we give it 7/10
