Millennium Writing Style Guide...
We have received loads of requests from people all over the world asking to post
articles, features and stories on our site. So we thought that a Style Guide might be
helpful for all you would-be electronic scribes...
- Writing style
- Sentences should be short and sharp. Don't use a long word, if a short one will
suffice.
- Sentences should be spaced with two spaces. There should be one space after
commas. Paragraphs generally consist of no more than three sentences, and are
separated by one hard line break
- We like a friendly warm style rather than a cold clinical one - and avoid jargon. If
you must use jargon, then explain what it means.
- Readership
- Though we have many UK and US readers, English is a second language for much
of our readership. Consequently, we prefer International English rather than
specifically colloquial British or American English.
- Remember we have a potential readership of 120 million websurfers so check your
facts before you submit an article!
- Subjects
The New Millennium has a number of sections..
- Fashion
- Green
- Lifestyle
- News
- Sport
- Technical
- Travel
- And we're happy to tackle a new subject, if you can supply sufficient quality
material to support it. Most of our editorial team is based within 100km of London,
England. Most of our material tends to reflect this. However we are playing on a
world stage and will accept copy from anywhere providing it meets our standards.
- Measurements
We try to conform to ISO metric standard as far as possible.
- Racism
We do not tolerate racism. Racist works will be rejected.
- Profanity
Avoid using foul language if possible. Some service providers are very fussy about foul
language, and might refuse to allow our site to go through their machines.
- Sexism
Much of our main editorial team is female, and we accept there are differences between
the sexes. However, we do not accept that one gender is overall superior to another, and
overt sexism, in favour of either gender, will not be tolerated.
- Formats
Submissions should be e-mailed either as ASCII text, or Word for
Windows (either version 2, 6, 7 or 8)
- Pictures
You should contact the editor mailbox for information regarding photographic formats. We
prefer scanning directly from high quality 35mm slides or negatives.
