Film Reviews
by Mark Harding
- Film: Scream
- Venue: Virgin Cimema Southampton - late night showing (woo, spooky)
- I have a problem with horror films. It's hard to say exactly what it is; might have been that glimpse of 'Zombie
Flesh-eaters' at an impressionable age. But I think I just don't like the feeling I get after them. To me, each movie
leaves its own distinct feeling. After a good action movie, for example, I feel good. The baddies had it coming. A
good comedy leaves me memorising lines to murder when trying to recount them back to friends. Horror films
always leave me feeling like there's some sick and weird people out there, and if any of them come near me I'll
bludgeon, shoot, drown and burn them. Well this one is different. But don't worry sicko fans, it made me jump
(not difficult admittedly), gave me the willies, and there was more than enough gore to go round. Nice to hear
Nick Cave in there too.
- Film Romeo & Juliet
- Venue: Harbour Lights, Southampton
- Not even my favourite cinema in the world (so far) (six down several thousand to go) could make me like this
film. Yes, the transfer to a modern setting works. Yes, its visually stunning. Yes, it sounds great. But what a lame
story, I'm sorry.
(Mark you old cynic - the hearts & flowers Ed).
- Video: Last Man Standing
- Venue: My Lounge
- (Last man awake: Mr. G. Lewis)
The great thing about Clint was he never said much in these kinds of films. Strictly business. Bruce Willis
character's infernal babbling and narration ruined the parts of the film which I managed to stay awake for.
