Jean Paira Pemberton's Home Page

Born in 1930, poet and lecturer, Jean Paira Pemberton has lived and worked in France for over thirty years and has been writing poetry since her university days. Originally from Cheshire in the UK she graduated from Reading University with a first class honours degree in French.

She is now teaching English and linguistics at Strasbourg University where she also completed her thesis on England's 19th Century poet John Clare. Not surprisingly Jean has combined her keen interest in language with a study of psychology and this is reflected in her poetry. Jean has three children: the eldest of whom was killed in a climbing accident at the age of twenty four. Her later poetry with its pervading sense of loss reflects this.
