The Preacher's Son

by

John Day

I met a preacher's son.
And he told me
The work of God was not yet done.
And I said
"Don't you think he's done enough?"
And he didn't know what I
Meant.
But sensed
my doubt.
"I see," I said.
"Let us have it out.
What of countless wars ?
What of illness in young ?
What of Murphy's Law ?
What has your God ever done?"
And he didn't say
"God works in mysterious ways."
Like expected.
He said
"Never mind God.
What have you ever done?"
